In the novels, the main characters are perpetually looking for a way to defeat their loneliness in the world and in many cases try to find it through sexual intercourse. The patriarch Jose Arcadio Buendia, in One Hundred Years of Solitude, is the founder of Macondo. The location of Mocondo is significant as it sits on an isolated place which gives the sense of the Buendia family being surrounded by solitude. It withal seems as if solitude is an inherited trait of the Buendia family leading to a variant of incest, which was started by Jose Arcadio Buendia and his wife, who is also his first cousin, Ursula Iguaran. depend on is probably used in the novel as a way to somehow bond the family together. Sex can be used as a tool to compensate connections to one another and can create body language which can also be a way of communicating.
